Structural adhesive liquid and tape solutions for automated, semi-automated or manual application
Structural adhesives can do much more than provide strength to automotive bonds. They can help you hit your targets for lightweighting, corrosion protection, crash safety and more. You can use structural adhesives in conjunction with mechanical fasteners and, in many cases, you can replace them. They can also save you significant time and money during production by enabling mixed materials, reducing panel fatigue and resin degradation, filling gaps, managing NVH, and reducing process steps. 3M™ Structural Adhesives are available in varying chemistries and formats so you can use them in multiple areas of the vehicle. Our experts are happy to help you determine the right structural adhesive solution for your specific needs, including automated application.
Flexible and simple to use, our one- and two-component structural adhesive liquids deliver flexible working times and variable cure rates. In most cases they can be incorporated into existing processes without additional equipment or process steps.
Quick, simple and clean, our structural tapes are excellent for body-in-white structural joining processes and for xEV battery assembly. Electrically isolating adhesive tapes cure in standard e-coat ovens and expand to fill gaps, which helps prevent corrosion of all types.
Our structural adhesive liquids and tapes are available in epoxy, acrylic and urethane chemistries. That means you can add structural strength to a broad range of areas and applications. Explore them here.
Our structural adhesives are suitable for bonding primary structures and for hang-on parts like doors, tailgates, hoods and trunk lids. Epoxy and acrylic adhesives are formulated for high-strength steel and aluminum, which makes them excellent for hem bonding. Many of them cure at lower temperatures (room temperature to induction curing at temperatures as low as 80°C), so you can use them for bonding composites such as carbon fiber reinforced polymers without distortion or resin degradation. Plus, bonded substructures can be stored for weeks and even months after induction.
3M structural adhesive tapes are ideal for electrical isolation, allowing for the use of mixed materials without additional e-coat. They can be applied without pumping, dosing or squeeze-out, and they are compatible with most draw and lube oils.

3M epoxy and acrylic structural adhesives can be used in conjuction with – or even in place of – mechanical fasteners for chassis components. They provide consistent wet-out across uneven surfaces, making them ideal for reinforcement of metal stamped parts during the assembly of the body to the chassis.
Featuring extremely flexible work times, shear strengths and peel strengths, our structural epoxies provide excellent heat and chemical resistance, as well as resistance to solvents and weathering.

Our selection of structural tapes provides solutions for what you need the most in exterior and glass assembly: bonding, sealing, and isolation. In fact, our 3M™ Structural Adhesive Tapes are designed to expand during cure to accomplish all three.
You can also add efficiency to this list. Our 3M™ Structural Bonding Tapes are pre-designed and pre-applied to hardware including rear view mirror components, sensor brackets and mounting pins. All of our structural bonding tapes feature adhesive designed to bond quickly to glass without added fixturing and heat-cures during standard autoclave processes. Or, it can be activated with UV light and applied post-autoclave.. Our 3M™ Structural Bonding Tape 9550 with Light Activated Adhesive eliminate the fixturing, priming, metering, pumping, purging and heating required with polyurethane processes..

This two-part epoxy adhesive is formulated to enable mixed material usage in automotive OEMs. It cures at much lower temperatures and delivers similar structural strength when compared to one-component epoxies. It allows you to store bonded substructures for up to two months for more flexible production cycles. 3M Structural Adhesive SA9820 is available in black for applications where aesthetics are important.
Featuring a pressure-sensitive adhesive that activates through exposure to ultraviolet light, this structural tape is formulated for bonding hardware components such as rearview mirror buttons, sensor brackets and mounting pins to glass post-autoclave. Adhesive eliminates the fixturing, priming, metering, pumping, purging and heating required with polyurethane processes. Tape is pre-applied to components with multiple packaging options.
3M Structural Adhesive Tape SAT1010 is typically used for body-in-white applications from paint-pretreatment through e-coat. This tape is heat-cured in a standard e-coat oven to help reduce process steps. It is designed to provide structural bonding strength for metal bonding and isolation of dissimilar materials. It expands during cure to fill gaps for excellent resistance to galvanic corrosion. SAT1010 is easily die-cut.
This two-part epoxy adhesive is formulated for steel or aluminum hem flange bonding in body-in-white. It cures during e-coat bake to minimize panel distortion or resin degradation on composites. It can be induction pre-cured to prevent parts from moving during transport or during the e-coat bath, which can help increase design flexibility and reduce cycle time. Non-sag adhesive can be applied either robotically or manually.
3M helps OEMs increase efficiency though Tier-level pre-attachment of 3M structural bonding tapes (SBT) to the brackets used to install cameras, humidity control sensors and mirror button/rain sensor combo brackets. Ultraviolet light-activated and heat-cured adhesives help streamline automated manufacturing and autoclave processes.
Designed to be cut to weight quickly and precisely, our lead-free composite 3M wheel weight material helps reduce inventory and potential rejects. Levelwound rolls work with Esys Automation's AutoW8t System to enable automated cutting and assembly, which can dramatically improve speed, quality and cost of tire balancing.
These tapes bond and seal automotive panels before paint application without additional process steps. Repositionable thermoset tapes apply easily into roof ditches, combined panel edge seals and holes. The tape material softens and flows during heat curing to cover surface imperfections and forms a smooth, paint-receptive surface.
3M offers sealants and adhesives pre-applied to threaded fasteners to help reinforce seals to critical areas such as engine compartments. Fluid-, temperature- and pressure-resistant sealants do not harden, allowing for part replacement. Microencapsulated epoxy adhesives activate and cure upon assembly to save process steps.
This two-part epoxy can offer the mechanical performance of a one-component adhesive without the pre-curing ovens often required for one-components on aluminum parts. Yet it exceeds the stiffness, strength and crash performance of many premium two-part structural adhesives. This adhesive is excellent for hem flange bonding.
Toughened two-part epoxy structural adhesive is toughened to absorb impact and resist fatigue, providing extremely high shear and peel strength. DP420 is excellent for use on metals and can replace mechanical fasteners and screws in many applications. It is ideal for demanding applications and tough environments.
This flexible, versatile two-part structural adhesive has excellent elongation and stress strain properties, and resists impact and fatigue. It is ideal for bonding composite parts and multi-material assemblies without primer on most surfaces. The non-sag paste formulation applies cleanly and precisely.
Formulated specifically for bonding polyolefins and other low-surface-energy materials, this structural adhesive is great for composite bonding and joining plastics to metals with minimal or no surface prep. Non-sag material makes for precise bonding for many grades of polypropylene, polyethylene, and thermoplastic elastomers (TPEs).
This two-part urethane structural adhesive cures very fast – it reaches handling strength in about 20 minutes – and delivers tough, yet flexible bonds. It is excellent for bonding dissimilar substrates including metals, plastics and rubber. Its non-sag paste formula allows for clean and accurate handling.
Designed for structural repairs as recommended by OEMs to restore crash energy management, this crash-toughened adhesive helps meet specific strength requirements for bonding mild to ultra-high-strength steel, aluminum and aluminum alloys. IRSA is typically used in conjunction with rivets, spot welds or mechanical fasteners.
Engineered to meet specific strength requirements for outer sheet metal panel replacement as recommended by many OEMs. 3M™ Panel Bonding Adhesive is typically used in conjunction with welding, rivets or hem flange joints to bond metal, many plastics, and composites. It should not be used for structural repairs unless recommended by the specific automotive manufacturer.
